What could be better than British Cars visiting a historic place, dedicated to the Greatest of all British Leaders! Joining JAGSL for our trek, were our friends from the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA), Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) and the Miata Club. Fulton, Missouri is where Winston Churchill delivered his famous “Iron Curtain” speech. On the site we were able to visit America’s National Churchill Museum and the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury. This Church was built in 1660 and once stood in the center of London. Nazi bombs gutted it during the Blitzkrieg of World War II. It’s the only building in the USA designed by Sir Christopher Wren and possibly the oldest building in the United States. The incredible task to bring this Church to Fulton was completed in 1969.

We planned out a route on some wonderful driving roads. The initial drive to confirm details was fun and a great joy! These blueline roads were in great condition and fun to drive with Missouri scenery that kept you interested along the way, crisscrossing the Katy Trail numerous times as we went up and down hills, reminding us about our State’s topography.

jagstljeffersoncityrallye20250223144819The Museum did not disappoint as they provided an excellent docent, Whit McCoskrie, who guided us through the exhibits and provided colorful highlights of many interesting points, while still keeping us on schedule. It was interesting to find that Winston Churchill was a passionate artist, who created over 500 paintings in his lifetime. Six original painting of Sir Winston are displayed in the Museum for viewing. The Museum details his life from birth through death. We relived history as we toured through a pictured history of his many highpoints and accomplishments. Sir Winston was an amazing individual with a dedication to Liberty and Democracy.

A group lunch at the Historic Post Office Bar and Grill included Phil providing a competition to identify True or False quotes attributed to Winston Churchill. A fun time to read through the statements included lively conversation with awards of jams from the United Kingdom given to the best and worst results.240331-Forest-Park-25-MK

This wonderful adventure to Fulton ended at 3 pm, when we headed on a 1 ½ hour drive back to St. Louis.

The bravest entrant honor goes to Todd Tobiass and John Lowell, Members of the CCCA, who teamed up to drive Todd’s ’31 LaSalle! We followed them for a while and thoroughly enjoyed the sight as they traversed up and down hills and through the winding roads!

Thanks to all that attended for a fun drive, history, and a good time with friends!
